Bilingual?

So I have come across a bit of a dilemma that I was wondering if anyone has any words of wisdom for. In teaching Bella how to read & write I want to know: should I be teaching her the Queen's English, or that of the good ole' US of A?

It goes against every instinct and fibre of my being to write colour without a 'U', and even in writing this sentence I stumbled over the word 'fibre'. Do I teach her that we say 'jumpers' at home, but call them 'sweaters' everywhere else? I don't want to confuse the poor thing, but I also want her to learn what I learnt and have some semblance of Australian-ness! I want her to call me Mum, but I don't want her to be teased to death because she can't spell Mom!

It may seem silly, but I've just been thinking about it lately and was curious if anyone had any thoughts?

To be honest Broni, I have actually always thought that the yanks way of spelling stuff made more sense.
I mean, metre or meter?.

tough one...i guess it comes down to where they're ultimately going to live. i agree though - they've got to call you MUM! :-) is there anyway to teach them both?

hmmm. i say queen's english. she will get all the usa english in everything else she does. look at it like a language immersion at home. it would be really cool for her to have a bridge in the gap of your heritage. that is how we are looking at chinese for o. kids learn so easily at this age. i believe they can totally handle learning both simultaneously. plus, she hears your voice which is such a great added advantage to learning queen's english. and anyway, if you had lived in australia during her first years, she would be dealing with the differences anyway, which i never even thought would have been that big of a deal in my eyes. miss you guys tons! i want to learn too!
